IJHSS History

Three score and a decade ago the Saintly Bishop of Quilon,Founder of school Rt. Rev. Dr. Jerome M. Fernandez Rt. Rev. Dr. Jerome M. Fernandez invoked the light of Infant Jesus into the formation of an educational institution 'Infant Jesus Anglo-Indian School' to cater to the educational needs of the masses, particularly to those of the Anglo-Indian Community among whose residences the school is situated at Tangasseri. The historic Tangasseri, replenished by the rich touches of the Dutch, the Portuguese and the English settlements, houses the school that bears, in a wider sense, the glory of the West and the East.

The geographic profile of Tangasseri in the southwest of Quilon is of a promontory lulled with affection by the waves of the Arabian sea waves. The ancient Light House, a landmark of Quilon is guide to the navigators and an attractive tourist spot of Quilon. The Light House beam flashes over the school that looks over to the blue Arabian Sea surging and heaving with many a tale to tell us. The school communicates with the great sea and shares in unspoken language the mysterious secrets the city, yet easily reachable. The Tangasseri Fort Wall preserved by the Archaeological Former manager Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph G. Fernandez Department and the Sand Stone Arch gate (Elephant Gate) that marks the entry point to the proper Tangasseri reflect the European presence. The ancient Bishop House at a stone’s throw away from the school is an epitome of the spiritual and educational tradition of Quilon Diocese, first of its kind in Asia and one of the few to receive the imprint of St. Thomas who is believed to have sailed to Kerala in 52 A.D. and truths of the by-gone ages. The school is sheltered from the sick hurry of the city, yet easily reachable. The Tangasseri Fort Wall preserved by the Archaeological Department and the Sand Stone Arch gate (Elephant Gate) that marks the entry point to the proper Tangasseri reflect the European presence. The ancient Bishop House at a stone’s throw away from the school is an epitome of the spiritual and educational tradition of Quilon Diocese, first of its kind in Asia and one of the few to receive the imprint of St. Thomas who is believed to have sailed to Kerala in 52 A.D.
